We present the first exhibition of a new collaboration between Rebus Works and Holly Aiken: paintings by the Asheville artist Julie Armbruster.
Julie Armbruster's mixed-media paintings (using pigment, charcoal, encaustic and ink) employ repeating characters which the artist forms from social observations and places within familiar illustrative context. Suggesting narrative, these absurd and often humorous creatures feel simultaneously tragic and hopeful.
